Stratford - upon - Avon

Stratford-upon-Avon is a small town and is situated on the banks of the River Avon. Stratford is most famous for being the birth and death place of the famous play wright William Shakespeare who is buried in the towns Holy Trinity Church.

Shakespeare was born in 1564 and died in 1616, however his plays and writings are still very popular today. The Royal Shakespeare Company was founded to perform the classic works of Shakespeare and more modern work. RSC is in its 50th year and is based at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford itself.

There are many things to see and do in Stratford, whatever the weather. There are many local walks which include taking in some of the towns lovely scenery down by the river, shopping is great whether you are looking for antiques, or simply clothes, and there are local parks and gardens which are a delight to walk around too.. A brass rubbing centre is an interesting visit as well as the Falstaffs Experience which is a living museum and is said to be a fun journey through time.

If Shakespeare is the reason for your visit to Stratford why not take in some more history by visiting one or all of the 5 Shakepeare Houses which date from the 16th Century and are open all year round, including; Shakespeare's birthplace where he was born and grew up and where he was inspired to write, (other writers visited his house including Charles Dickens!) and Nash's House, where Shakespeare died in 1616.
